Whoop 5.0 MG Life: The Complete Review

WHOOP 5.0 MG life price in Pakistan

Most fitness trackers tell you what you already did. Whoop tries to tell you what to do next. That is the whole pitch, and now that the 5.0 generation has been on wrists for over a year, we can judge it on results instead of launch day marketing.

If you searched “Whoop 5.0 MG Life” and came away confused, you are not alone. It sounds like one product. It is actually three things stacked on top of each other: the Whoop 5.0 platform, the Whoop MG hardware, and the Whoop Life membership. Untangling that is the first job of this review.

The second job is the part that international reviews skip. We ship Whoop units to customers across Pakistan from our Lahore store, so we see what happens after the box is opened here. Some of it is excellent. One part of it is a real problem you should know about before you spend ₨ 80,000.

The Short Verdict

Buy it if: you train seriously five or more days a week, you care more about recovery and sleep than step counts, and you are comfortable paying every single year for the rest of the time you own it.

Skip it if: you walk, do light gym work two or three times a week, want notifications on your wrist, or you want the ECG and heart screening features specifically. That last one matters more in Pakistan than anywhere else, and we explain why below.

Our editorial score: 4 out of 5 for committed athletes. Closer to 2.5 out of 5 for the average Pakistani buyer who mostly wants a smart band.

What “Whoop 5.0 MG Life” Actually Means

This naming trips up almost everyone, so let us be blunt about it.

You do not buy Whoop hardware. You join Whoop. You pay an annual membership, and the device arrives free as part of it. Cancel the membership and the band becomes a plastic brick.

There are three memberships, and the one you pick decides which device shows up:

  • Whoop One gives you the Whoop 5.0 device with a wired basic charger and a CoreKnit band.
  • Whoop Peak gives you the Whoop 5.0 device with the wireless PowerPack and a SuperKnit band.
  • Whoop Life gives you the Whoop MG device with the wireless PowerPack and a SuperKnit Luxe band.

So “Whoop 5.0 MG Life” is shorthand for the top of the range: MG hardware on a Life plan. MG stands for medical grade, which refers to the ECG sensor built into the sides of the module. That sensor is the only real hardware difference between the 5.0 and the MG. Externally they are nearly identical.

One thing that catches upgraders out: Whoop 4.0 bands and the old 4.0 battery pack do not work with the 5.0 or the MG. The charging system changed. If you are coming from a 4.0, your accessory drawer is now decorated.

Whoop discounts multiyear signups. A two year Life commitment has been offered around 599 USD, which softens the sting considerably if you are certain you will stick with it.

Design and Living With it

The MG is a small sensor pod on a fabric strap with a flip over clasp. It is about 11 mm thick and roughly 27 g, which is light enough that you forget it. Reviewers who wore it daily for months consistently report the same thing: no irritation, no sweat traps, and the band dries fast after a shower or a swim.

It is not a handsome object. At around 24 mm wide it is always visible on your wrist, and it looks like equipment rather than jewellery. Some people wear it on the opposite wrist to a watch, which works fine.

What it does exceptionally well is disappear. No buzzing, no glowing, nothing asking for your attention. If you have ever taken a smartwatch off because it would not stop talking to you, that silence is the best feature here.

The SuperKnit Luxe band that comes with Life is a clear step up from the standard one. Soft, stretchy, breathable. In Pakistani summers that matters, and if you sweat through it daily you will want a spare. Silicone sport loops for the 5.0 and MG are widely available, including here at Typeshop.

Strain, Recovery and Sleep: How the Scores Work

Three numbers sit at the top of the app.

Recovery is a percentage, calculated overnight from heart rate variability, resting heart rate and sleep performance. Green means push. Red means back off.

Sleep tracks stages, disturbances and sleep debt. This is one of Whoop’s oldest strengths and it still holds up. The sleep debt graph is quietly the most useful screen in the whole app, because it explains why Thursday feels heavier than Monday.

Strain is the one people misunderstand. It is a 0 to 21 scale measuring cardiovascular and muscular load, and Whoop sets your daily target automatically. You cannot adjust it.

Here is the honest part. One reviewer who tested the MG for weeks found his daily Strain target sitting around 14 or 15, while a normal working day plus a 30 minute walk landed him between 7 and 9. To hit the target, you need real training. Not a stroll. Not a light gym session.

That single detail tells you whether Whoop is for you. If a hard number you have to earn motivates you, it works brilliantly. If you will spend a year staring at a target you never reach, you will resent it.

The app also includes automatic activity detection, which testers found accurate, a daily journal for logging caffeine, alcohol and stress, strength workout programmes, and an AI coach that answers questions in plain language. The coach is better than these things usually are.

What Whoop Life adds

This is what your extra 120 USD a year buys over the Peak plan.

Heart Screener and ECG

You grip both sides of the module with your fingers and hold still. After a one time calibration, the app returns one of several results: normal sinus rhythm, atrial fibrillation, high or low heart rate, or inconclusive. You can export a PDF to hand to a cardiologist.

The restrictions are firm. You must be 22 or older. It is not intended for anyone with a known arrhythmia other than AFib, and it is not recommended if you have a pacemaker, an ICD or any other implanted electronic device. It is a screening tool, not a diagnosis.

Blood Pressure Insights

Read this carefully, because the marketing language is doing a lot of work.

The MG does not measure your blood pressure. It estimates a range. Before it will show you anything, you have to log three readings from a proper cuff to calibrate it, and the feature has been running as a beta. Whoop states plainly that it is not a medical device, cannot diagnose or manage conditions, and is not intended for anyone who is pregnant or taking blood pressure medication.

There is an obvious circular problem here that one reviewer put well: if you already own a cuff accurate enough to calibrate the feature, you already own something better than the estimate. Useful for spotting trends over months. Not a replacement for the cuff.

Healthspan, Whoop Age and Pace of Aging

Whoop Age gives you a physiological age against your actual age, and Pace of Aging shows whether your habits are helping or hurting. It is built from nine behaviours including sleep consistency, VO2 max and activity levels.

Is it scientifically airtight? No, and Whoop labels it as wellness only, not medical, and restricts it to users 18 and over. But as a motivational lever it works. Watching your Whoop Age drop by two years because you finally fixed your bedtime is more persuasive than any graph.

Hormonal Insights

Cycle tracking that adjusts strain and recovery guidance across cycle phases, plus support through pregnancy and perimenopause. Whoop is clear it is not for conception or contraception. Whoop has also been bundling a year of Natural Cycles with memberships.

Advanced Labs

Blood panels ordered through the app, with results pulled into your Whoop profile. Interesting, and completely irrelevant to you: it is the United States only. You can still enter results from a local lab manually, which is a decent workaround if you get tested at Chughtai or Shaukat Khanum anyway.

Battery and the PowerPack

The 14 day claim holds up. Testers report roughly 35 percent remaining after 10 days of normal use. Heavy activity tracking pulls it down, but you are still charging twice a month instead of every night.

Charging is unusual. There is no port on the device at all. A battery pack slides over the module and charges it while you keep wearing it, which means your data never has a gap. About 90 minutes for a full charge. It warms up slightly on the wrist.

Now the warning. If you lose that PowerPack, you cannot charge your Whoop. There is no backup method. A replacement runs up to 98 USD internationally, and in Pakistan you are looking at an import order and a wait. Treat that little pack like your car keys.

The Pakistan Reality Check

This is the section no international review will give you, and it is the most important one on this page.

The ECG and heart rhythm features do not work in Pakistan. Whoop gates them by country because they need medical regulatory clearance in each market. As of now, ECG is enabled in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, the UK, most of the EU, and several Gulf states including the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Irregular Heart Rhythm Notifications follow a similar list. Pakistan is neither.

Sit with that, because it changes the entire value calculation. The single reason to choose MG hardware and a Life membership over the cheaper Peak plan is Heart Screener. If that feature is dark on your account, you are paying 120 USD more per year for Blood Pressure Insights and a nicer band.

Our honest advice for most buyers in Pakistan: Whoop Peak is the better plan. You keep Healthspan, Whoop Age, the Stress Monitor, the Health Monitor and the wireless PowerPack, and you drop the features that are region locked anyway. Whoop lets you upgrade later if clearance arrives here.

A few other local realities:

  • Renewals need an international card. Your first 12 months come in the box. After that Whoop bills you in USD, so you need a card that handles international transactions, and your bank’s markup applies on top.
  • There is no official Whoop presence in Pakistan. Every unit here is imported. That makes your retailer your entire support system, which is worth thinking about before you buy from a marketplace listing.
  • Accessories are an import order. Bands are easy enough. The PowerPack is not.
  • Summer sweat is a real factor. A second band is not a luxury here between May and September.

What it Actually Costs Over Two Years

Item Cost
Whoop bundle in Pakistan (device plus 12 months) Around ₨ 80,000 to ₨ 90,000
Year two Life renewal 359 USD plus bank charges
Year two Peak renewal 239 USD plus bank charges
PowerPack replacement if lost Up to 98 USD plus shipping

Compare that against a Galaxy Watch or an Apple Watch, where you pay once and everything is included, and the gap over two years is substantial. Whoop is not competing on price and does not pretend to.

Whoop MG Versus the Alternatives

Device Ongoing fee Screen ECG in Pakistan Best for
Whoop MG on Life Yes, yearly No No Athletes chasing recovery data
Whoop 5.0 on Peak Yes, yearly No No The sensible Whoop pick here
Oura Ring 4 Yes, monthly No No Sleep and lifestyle, less training focus
Apple Watch Series 11 None Yes Region dependent Everyday use plus fitness
Galaxy Watch 8 None Yes Region dependent Android users who want one device
Amazfit or Huawei bands None Yes No Budget tracking that just works

If your honest answer to “how hard do I train” is “a few times a week,” a good smart watch or fitness band will serve you better and cost a fraction of this over two years. We would rather tell you that than sell you something you stop wearing in March.

Who Should Buy The Whoop MG Life

You are the right buyer if you train five or more days a week and periodisation actually means something to you. If you have been overtraining and cannot tell until you are injured. If you are the person who wants sleep debt quantified rather than described. If you travel and hate charging things. If a screenless band on the other wrist from your watch sounds appealing rather than strange.

You are the wrong buyer if you want notifications, music control or contactless payments. If your training is honestly moderate. If a yearly renewal in dollars will nag at you. And especially if you were buying MG for the ECG, because in Pakistan that feature will not switch on.

Final Verdict

The Whoop MG is very good at a narrow job. The data is deep, the coaching is intelligent rather than nagging, the battery is close to unbeatable, and the silence is a feature nobody else is selling. As a training instrument it earns its place.

The Life membership is where our enthusiasm cools, at least from here. Its two headline features are a region locked ECG and a blood pressure estimate that needs a cuff to work. Neither justifies the premium for a buyer in Pakistan today. Choose the MG on Life because you want the top hardware and the nicer band, not because of a features list you cannot fully access.

For most people reading this, the answer is Peak. For a smaller group who train like it is their job, Whoop is one of the best things you can strap to your wrist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Whoop 5.0 MG Life one product?

No. Whoop MG is the device and Whoop Life is the membership tier it ships with. Whoop 5.0 refers to the current generation. You cannot buy MG hardware on a cheaper plan.

Does the Whoop MG ECG work in Pakistan?

No. ECG and Irregular Heart Rhythm Notifications require medical regulatory clearance per country, and Pakistan is not currently on Whoop’s approved list. The sensor is in the hardware, but the feature stays locked.

Can I use Whoop without paying a subscription?

No. The membership is the product. If it lapses, the app stops delivering scores and the band stops being useful.

How long does the Whoop MG battery really last?

About 14 days in normal use. Testers report roughly a third of the charge left after 10 days. Heavy workout tracking shortens it.

Does Whoop MG have a screen or notifications?

Neither. It is deliberately screenless. Everything lives in the phone app.

Is Whoop waterproof enough for swimming?

Yes. It is IP68 and rated to 10 metres, so pool sessions and showers are fine.

Does Whoop count steps?

Not as a headline metric. It measures Strain, which reflects cardiovascular and muscular load. If step counts are what motivate you, this is the wrong device.

Can Whoop MG measure my blood pressure properly?

No. It estimates a range after you calibrate it with three readings from a real cuff. Whoop states it is not a medical device and is not for use during pregnancy or while taking blood pressure medication.

Will my Whoop 4.0 bands and charger fit the MG?

No. The 5.0 generation changed the charging design, so old bands and battery packs are not compatible.

Whoop MG or Whoop 5.0 Peak for a buyer in Pakistan?

Peak, for most people. You keep Healthspan, Whoop Age, the Stress Monitor, the Health Monitor and the wireless PowerPack, and you skip paying for heart features that are region locked here.

What happens if I lose the PowerPack?

You cannot charge the device. There is no alternative charging method, and a replacement means an international order. Keep it somewhere fixed.

Does Whoop work with both iPhone and Android?

Yes, both. The app is the main interface on either platform.
